My moment, my March to Glory was upstaged by the Oscars. I’m not even mad that I didn’t get invited this year. I mean I know I’m not an actor, but still it would have been nice to get an invitation… not that I would have accepted anyway because we had the match right?
The controversy it caused… honestly I wasn’t sure he wasn’t going to take my eye. He can use whatever reason for not doing it he wanted. But we beat the hell out of each other… I was bloody. I don’t like bleeding in wrestling, hardcore wrestling has always been… beneath me. Yes I know that’s how Scooter made his name, but it’s too savage for me… I don’t enjoy doing it. I’ve never had blood lust like that. But also knowing Scooter like I did…I was 97% sure I was good but that pesky 3% you know?
Just like my match with Scooter it’s the controversy that followed the Oscars that bothers me. Will Smith can do nothing right in people’s eyes. He’s being vilified and crucified for what he did. People are throwing around the term “thug.” It’s the Fresh Prince! Mr Wild Wild West. Mr Men In Black, dude’s entire music career was kidz bop before kidz bop existed…
I respect the hell out of him and his marriage. He and his wife had an open discussion about what was going on with their marriage, the “entanglement.” The man poured open his soul to express his feelings of what was going on in his life, he cried, and what did he get from it? He became a meme for it. He was mocked and ridiculed for showing his emotions. He was a joke for crying for allowing himself to be vulnerable to the people who mocked him for expressing himself.
Then at the Oscars Will Smith stood up against Chris Rock who talked shit about his wife. She wasn’t pleased with Rock’s joke and had her husband handle it. That is what you do for your partner. He obeyed his wife. He knows his wife won’t lead him down the wrong path. He still won the Oscar that night. But no one’s making fun of him crying, are they? No, they are mad he stood up for his wife, he threw hands and was not about to let her be humiliated on national television and everybody!
People have been like “Oh violence is never the answer.” Are you kidding me? He did what a man should do in a situation of disrespect to his partner, to his queen. She gave him a look and that’s all she needed to do, and he went and handled it. That is powerful! That is how it should be!
In this industry of wrestling we are actually big about respect, we handle it in the ring for the most part… but not always, no sometimes it’s handled differently. When you get into wrestling the first thing you’re taught is respect. Before you get into that ring, you’re taught to respect everyone who came before you. Respect the business and humble yourself. That’s what everyone’s forgetting. Wrestling is about respect if you can’t go in that locker room and show respect you don’t belong here. If you can’t humble yourself and admit when you are wrong. That there are other people who are your betters?
You don’t belong there and Will Smith did what few men have the balls to actually do and again I commend Jada for it. That’s what you do, that’s how you handle it. It’s a partnership. It’s important to be able to know how to communicate with just a look. Especially with the season of War Games. My goals and dreams of War Games means I will need to be able to be on a team that is able to comply and work cohesively. Just like Will and Jada.
_____________
Parma Heights, Ohio. We see the white colonial style house with French doors. The home of the QOE, before going forward we shift to the house across the street. We see that Marc, the person the house belongs to now has a for sale sign in front of it. We go back to the front window of the colonial and see the Queen of Epicness Bobbinette Carey looking out the window on this spring morning. Bobbinette is wearing a purple cardigan with a magenta cami and matching leggings with black flats. Her hair is pulled back into a sloppy bun as she looks out her window taking a sip of her coffee with a little bit of a smirk.
Bobbinette: I’m glad he saw things my way…
She picks up her phone and goes to her contacts, scrolling for a specific name. She hits the call button on the name and puts the phone to her ear. She starts getting a lunch box out ready to talk to the other person but it goes straight to voicemail.
She sighs heavily.
Bobbinette: Darkwing, come on! I didn’t go to ringside with you because it’s Kostoff. It’s not like it’s 2002 anymore. I’m sorry that happened…
She is pacing back and forth as she talks to the voicemail.
Bobbinette: Watching the replay…. that’s rough… I just wanted to make sure you’re okay. Like that was bad, I have not seen anything that bad in a long time. I’m not making fun of you or anything, I’m just saying it was bad and you know I’m checking in. Call me back.
She hangs up the phone and goes to the fridge getting a few small little ziploc bags already prepared and setting them nicely into the lunch box. We hear footprints coming down the steps in a rushed hurry. We see the adorable Mimi Carey, her hair freshly done in pigtails. She is dressed in a pink Skirtall, with a purple puffed princess sleeve top under it. She runs over and hugs her mom’s hip.
Mimi: Good morning Mommy!
Bobbinette smiles, putting her hand on her daughter’s back softly looking down at her.
Bobbinette: Good morning my beautiful Princess. Did you brush your teeth?
The little girl nods her head quickly with a large smile. Bobbinette squints at the little girl then bends down and gets eye level.
Bobbinette: Let me smell your breath…
Mimi starts giggling. There is a honking sound outside the door. Bobbinette sighs and walks to the door as Mimi grabs her jacket and book bag. Bobbinette walks out to the school bus as Mimi is running towards the bus behind her Mom. Bobbinette stands next to the bus door as Mimi gets on the first step then turns to look at her mom.
Bobbinette: Remember, you are kind, intelligent, and brave. You’re amazing and you’ll do wonderful things today. I believe in you Princess.
Mimi: Love you Mommy!
Bobbinette smiles and kisses her daughter on the forehead before Mimi runs onto the bus. Bobbinette takes a step back and watches her daughter get into her seat.
Bobbinette: Love you baby girl!
She says to the window and waves as the bus pulls away. She looks up and down the street at the other parents outside. She bites the side of her mouth as she sees other parents look in her direction then quickly look away. As the bus moves she sees Marc standing out there. She quickly looks away and sees her two friends walking briskly towards her. Bobbinette turns around and heads into the house, not bothering to close the door behind her. As she walks in her pitbull Duke walks past her to greet the company.
Bobbinette: You’re useless, Duke!
She yells over her shoulder as the Mom Squad pet Duke and closes the door entering the house. Bobbinette sighs, already knowing what is coming.
Bobbinette: My friends..
She says as Leah and Michelle look at her anxiously. Leah is in a pair of jeans and a long sleeve blue shirt with a pink puff vest over it. Michelle has on a bathrobe with green bears on it with a pair of black pajama pants and a matching top with the bears. The two of them seem to be wanting to avoid saying anything. Michelle motions to Leah, who nods at her.
Leah: So…
Michelle: Marc is moving…
Michelle says anxiously looking over Bobbinette’s facial expression.
Bobbinette: Makes sense…
Bobbinette says as she goes to her cabinet and grabs a bowl then a spoon and sets it on her center kitchen island. The friends standing around the island both seem like they want to speak. Bobbinette has her back turned as she is looking at the cereals in her pantry.
Bobbinette: It feels like you two are staring holes into me. I’m not okay with this, just get to the damn point already.
Bobbinette has a tone of annoyance. Michelle makes a worried face and hesitates for a moment.
Michelle: Well … I mean… you and Scott.
Bobbinette: Scooter.
She corrects her friend.
Bobbinette: I didn’t take Marc’s eye, and it was gross and excessive. But it was also sweet and compassionate. That is what you do when you stand up for someone.
The two of them look disturbed and confused.
Leah: He took the man’s damn eye!
She shudders realizing she is yelling at her friend, recomposing herself and clears her throat.
Leah: That’s not cute, it’s not adorable. In the normal world that’s a felony! Wrestling seems to be above it all like you’re all part of a Mafia.
Leah says in a long winded breath as she gasps for air.
Michelle: Yeah that wasn’t cool dude… Wait, are you guys in the Mob? Wait, don’t tell me!
Michelle says as she pulls a coffee mug out of her deep bathrobe pocket and takes a sip.
Bobbinette: I’m sorry, would you two prefer I lost an eye?
Bobbinette asks with an offended scoff as she grabs a box of Raisin Nut Bran.
Leah: No of course not… I’m shocked you got Scooter to forgive you.
Leah squints as she looks completely lost.
Leah: Then you two were laughing like lunatics… I’ve never seen you like that and it was kind of scary.
Bobbinette: I told him he would. I know him better than anyone else. That is the thing… he was mad but I helped him. If he would have lost to Mike like that on his own? I wasn’t about to let him live like that.. me costing him it… helped him.
Bobbinette said as she poured milk in her empty bowl then the cereal into the bowl. Her friends look at her with disgust.
Bobbinette: Me, I could handle a loss to Mario… but to lose to Mike after giving up his 10% of the company? That.. nope… it was the compassionate thing to do. Look, I know it’s not what you guys consider “normal.”
She says using her fingers for the air quotes before grabbing the spoon for her cereal.
Bobbinette: But that’s the thing at the end of the day it’s about somebody that you know you can depend on. With these younger people and people coming in and out all the time you need somebody you know who’s going to have your back. Who’s going to do the right thing, that they know is best for you and that’s exactly what I did.
She takes a bite of her cereal.
Leah: But an eye…
Bobbinette: Almost an eye for an eye..Scooter found out the guy was trash. You know, the guy you wanted to set me up with? And then he stood up and defended me after he found out the guy was a slime ball, so if anything this is both of your faults. But I’m not even thinking about that right now because I have to get on a plane soon and get ready for the next Refueled.
Michelle: Hey, that’s not fair. We didn’t know he was a dick, and we want you to be happy. You’ve been single since forever. Maybe we think that you should actually try having a life, but it doesn’t seem like that’s possible because you’re already married to wrestling.
Michelle says finishing her coffee then going over to Bobbinette’s coffee pot and pouring another serving into her mug. Bobbinette shrugs while eating her cereal.
Leah: He could have at least knocked the cobwebs out. I mean when was the last time you got laid?
Bobbinette rolls her eyes, not answering the question.
Leah: That wasn’t battery operated or rechargeable!?
Leah looks at Bobbinette with an annoyed look on her face.
Bobbinette: That’s a good take. I’m married to my job. It’s always there, it never leaves me, it understands when I need to take a break… I don’t have to clean up after it.
Bobbinette sighs and shakes her head looking down at her cereal.
Bobbinette: I don’t need to get laid. Men are too much work, besides I’d probably body slam a guy accidently.
She laughs weakly.
Bobbinette: What I am saying is that it isn’t important. I haven’t been back very long… new kids are coming in. They’re looking to make names for themselves.
Michelle: Ah the not so subtle topic change done by Bobbinette Carey when she doesn’t want to continue the conversation.
Michelle says as she goes into the fridge and grabs Tiramisu coffee creamer and pours it into her cup.
Leah: Yeah as subtle as an anvil… but speaking about your men… your partner..
Bobbinette: Yes, Scooter…
Bobbinette says, rolling her eyes.
Bobbinette: And before you even insinuate-
Leah quickly shakes her head from side to side.
Leah: No, the black one.
Michelle’s jaw drops at the statement.
Michelle: That’s racist!
Michelle states before drinking her coffee.
Leah: Look for her not getting any, there sure is a lot of dick around her.
Bobbinette drops her spoon into her cereal.
Bobbinette: Well, that ruined my cereal.
Bobbinette takes the bowl and dumps it down the drain before turning on the sink.
Bobbinette: But what about Darkwing?
She asks loudly as she turns on the garbage disposal cleaning up the cereal.
Michelle: It is odd that first mention of a partner and you think Scooter.
Michelle mumbles with her travel coffee mug to her lips.
Leah: Yeah that’s a good point too. But Darkwing… you kind of left him out there….
Leah gets up and walks over to the coffee pot and grabs a mug. She pours coffee into the mug but not enough to fill up the cup. She starts prepping a new pot of coffee.
Bobbinette: War Games was on my mind.
Michelle: You’re not even a Captain.
Michelle says again, mumbling. Bobbinette glares at the statement then shrugs.
Bobbinette: Second round pick by Micheal Oliver Best. That means I mattered. I haven’t ever been on good terms with the other Bests. But MOB, he’s got style. So like, I can’t even be mad about it.
Leah: Yeah… but… why aren’t you anxious?
Bobbinette: Because I said from day one I was going to win it. That’s been my goal, my eyes, already set on it. But I have to get through qualifiers to make it to the actual match. I have to face off with someone on the other side…
Bobbinette looks around the counter for her misplaced coffee mug. Leah sees her looking around and points behind the cereal box.
Bobbinette: Scooter and I aren’t even on the same team…like I don’t think there’s a single person I have ever partnered with on my team…that new dude I’m facing this week is on my team.
She squints and looks over the list of names.
Bobbinette: There’s the qualifier matches coming up after this week. That cements War Games teams.
Leah: Yeah but that’s in the future, not now. And I just remembered, we didn’t get to celebrate your birthday with you.
Michelle glares at her as the whole room goes silent and Leah’s eyes widen.
Michelle: You know 1, she doesn’t celebrate birthdays. 2… she’s in wrestling brain mode. You know this look she gives when the wheels are turning.
Bobbinette seems to be looking off in the corner of the room. She doesn’t acknowledge what her friends just said.
Bobbinette: But JJ Starfire. I don’t even know who he is… I’ve got nothing to go off of.
She shrugs her shoulders.
Michelle: Told you, she’s not even listening to us.
Michelle follows Bobbinette’s eyes seeing she’s staring off in the distance.
Bobbinette: This is his first match here in HOW. I remember that feeling. Until that point I was a big fish in every pond I went to. But here…. Here you’re a goldfish dumped into an aquarium of sharks.
She bites the side of her lip with a sigh.
Bobbinette: Back then I was young, scrappy, and hungry.
Leah: You’re quoting Hamilton.
Leah says with a laugh. Bobbinette blinks and looks at Leah.
Bobbinette: It’s accurate though. It was a different era. Where any title could change hands at any time. Everyone wanted any title they could get their hands on… We wanted to make a legacy. You know the faces that are up on HOW Mount Rushmore.
Leah raises an eyebrow.
Leah: There’s like 5 guys on Mount Rushmore…
Bobbinette: And I know people wouldn’t put me on their own Mount Rushmore. But there’s girls, there’s kids out there who have watched me for years that are now coming up and into HOW. They are doing it because I did it. They saw me be the first female to win the World Title. They saw me be the first female in the Hall of Fame. It was a small list of us back then… Now you throw a stone and can hit a Hall of Fame legend in the locker room. But those of us from back then… we were cut from a different type of cloth.
She says in a bittersweet tone.
Bobbinette: I’ve been doing this for more than half of my life… twenty six years. I may hang the boots up some day. Let the next generation take over.
Her friends look nervously at each other. Bobbinette notices the tone of the room and laughs, shaking her head.
Bobbinette: Not any time soon. But I was away for years. I’m still knocking rust off. And while doing that it’s like I fell in love with the business all over again…
Her cheeks perk up as she smiles.
Bobbinette: Every bump, every bruise.. reminds me why I came back. Yeah, I can say War Games is my goal but…getting fresh new competitors. Getting to be the first person they step foot in a HOW ring against.
There’s almost a twinkle in her eye as she talks.
Bobbinette: JJ Starfire has a fresh start, an opportunity to come here and show the fans, show everyone in the back who he is. Why should we give a damn about him? Because the fans know how they feel about me. I know who I am. I am the first person picked in the second round of the War Games Draft. He’s on the same team of the Best’s. This right here could prove that Mike Best made a good draft pick or if he needs guidance from someone… like me.
She now seems to be more energetic and fired up. She takes her coffee to the sink and rinses the cup out. She walks past her friends and goes to her home gym, ignoring Michelle and Leah. They quickly walk behind her.
Bobbinette: I can honestly say I’m almost envious of him. A fresh start, getting to do it all all over again. Remembering that energy of knowing this is my first time here. There is nothing like it and I’ve got to make sure that I leave it all out there in the ring.
She starts doing some stretches as her mind is racing.
Leah: What is going on in your brain?
Bobbinette: I have a legacy that I will leave behind. This is the chance to give a newcomer the shot they need.
Michelle: I think she just switched from Hamilton to Washington.
Michelle whispers to Leah. Bobbinette cracks her neck from side to side.
Bobbinette: This right here…. I mean getting handed one of the originals. One of the Vets. A ring general… I mean if I was them, I’d be excited. I would be ready to make my mark. Using an old person as an example of what he is here to do.
Bobbinette starts laughing as she runs in place.
Bobbinette: So, as long as he shows up. All he has to do is keep the drive.. he signed a contract here because we’ve got the history. He is stepping in the ring to stand on our shoulders to prove the new blood is the future. But the problem is, I’m not done with my story yet. HOW fans will be watching. History will have its eyes on us. This could be his moment to stamp his ticket as a top contender. Or it could be my moment to remind the kids I didn’t get to where I am by just accepting defeat.
Michelle: If she starts singing, I’m leaving.
Bobbinette is jogging in place, looking at herself in the mirror. She jerks her head toward her friends.
Bobbinette: I love you both. But get out.. we will talk later.
Bobbinette jogs over to her two friends then starts pushing them out of her gym while closing and locking the door behind them. They fill up their coffee cups before they exit the home of the QOE.
