It was 11:05pm in the evening here in Liverpool. Jace and Meredith, yes that’s right, MEREDITH, have left Jatt Starr’s hotel room. The impromptu meeting was short but accomplished what it set out to do. Jace had his arm around Meredith who looked less than comfortable in her own skin, let alone in her chic pinstripe business suit.
Once they’ve made their way far enough away from Jatt’s hotel room door, the smiles on their faces begin to fade. A shiver runs down Meredith’s spine as she leans forward to press the button to call for the elevator. The awkward silence between the two of them is broken by Meredith taking Jace’s arm and shoving it off of her in a forceful manner.
“Hey, what’s your problem, Mere?” Jace asks as he tries to put his arm back around her shoulder, but she shrugs him off.
“Keep your hands to yourself, please, and you know exactly what my problem is, Sir.” Meredith says under her breath as she wipes off her shoulder.
“Oh, yeah I get it.” Jace gives a knowing nod. “That time of the month, it must be rough.”
“It is totally not that time of the month!” Meredith yells in an offended tone. “I mean, that’s none of your business.”
“Then what is your problem? Is it hemorrhoids?” Jace makes an uneducated guess.
“You’re a vile creature, you know that?” Meredith rolls her eyes then tries to regain her composure. “My problem is that I’m not supposed to be here. Especially with you of all people.”
“Eh, mistakes happen, and you just have to roll with the punches.” Jace says as he places his hands behind his head.
“Mistakes? Is that what you call it?” Meredith looks up at Jace with confusion written all over her face. “I guess we need to call the people at Guinness for this colossal mistake that you’ve made today.”
Meredith expects a response from Jace, maybe even an apology, but none comes.
“Cat got your tongue?” Meredith questions as she runs her fingers through her hair.
“Say what now?” Jace shakes his head a bit and snaps back to reality. “Sorry, I was absolutely staring down your shirt and checking out your rack but if you want to show me the kitty too, I’m down.”
“PIG!” Meredith screeches as she uses her hands to pull her jacket on the business suit closed.
“You’re pretty uptight for a chick that for all intents and purposes is practically on vacation.” Jace tilts his head to the side and sucks on his teeth. “Besides, what’s a little cleavage between friends?”
“We are NOT friends.” Meredith leans forward and presses the button for the elevator repeatedly. “However, speaking of friends…how did your buddy Mr. Starr did not realize that I wasn’t Madison and that something was, in a word, off?”
“Jatt only cares about things that Jatt deems important.” Jace says matter-of-factly. “Or maybe he was just too busy staring at your rack to notice.”
“Men are disgusting.” Meredith mutters to herself.
“I guess I should thank you for paying for that disgusting pizza back there.” Jace muses out loud.
“I expect my five pounds back!” Meredith hisses in a demanding tone.
“Oh, I plan on giving you five pounds or more tonight.” Jace wiggles his eyebrows.
The innuendo filters through Meredith’s ears as a look of complete and utter horror forms on her face. Meredith balls up her fist and punches Jace in the shoulder before moving a few steps away from him as she wraps her arms around herself.
“We don’t even have to wait until later. You’ve ever had sex in a elevator, Meredith?” Jace asks with peaked interest.
“That is absolutely not happening and once again that information is none of your business.” Meredith lectures as her face begins to turn a shade of red.
“You totally have, you dirty, dirty girl.” Jace laughs but then horror takes over his face. “Ewww, no! I don’t want the visual of you and Zion having sex!”
Jace raises his hands up to his face and tries to rub the image from his eyes. Meredith bites her bottom lip and lowers her head as her face continues to glow red. A loud ding fills the hallway of the luxury hotel as the elevator doors finally open. Meredith is the first to step inside and she stands in the corner of the elevator. Jace follows behind her and pushes the button for the bottom floor as the elevator doors close again.
“So, replacement pussy…” Jace speaks up.
“Excuse me?” Meredith raises her head and has her eyebrow cocked in judgment.
“You’re the replacement for Madison, so that’s what you are. A replacement pussy.” Jace states with confidence.
“I beg your fucking pardon?!?!” The hairs on the back of Meredith’s neck stand straight up as now it’s her eyes that are burning red.
“Ha, fucking. You know Jatt probably thinks that’s the reason we left in such a hurry there.” Jace says as he uses his elbow to nudge Meredith a bit.
“Before you even think about it, it’s not happening!” Meredith growls.
“Oh okay, you’re one of those chicks that needs to be liquored up before you get freaky between the sheets.” Jace says as he rubs his chin.
“I am not getting drunk and jumping between any form of sheets with you!” Meredith hisses.
“Fine, then at least let me treat you to a decent meal.” Jace says in a compromising tone.
“What makes you think I want to share a meal with you?” Meredith scoffs.
“Well, I need to get the taste of that awful pizza out of my mouth. If you don’t want me to buy you dinner, I can think of something else I could eat to get this foul taste to go away.” Jace eyes Meredith’s lower half.
Meredith squeezes her legs together tightly and begins shaking her no back and forth. “I want my Darin!”
“Ugh, fine since you’re totally against having any kind of fun, why don’t you make yourself useful?” Jace folds his arms across his chest.
“Define useful.” Meredith says in a skeptical tone.
“Tell me a bit about Arthur Pleasant.” Jace says as he stares up at the ceiling of the elevator.
“Do I look like your manager?” Meredith turns her head away from Jace.
“Look around, do you see Madison here with us?” Meredith reluctantly shakes her head no. “Clearly, but you are here so make with the information.”
Meredith groans before pulling out her cellphone. “You should already know everything you need to know about the guy. I mean you did eliminate him from the battle royal last week.”
“A battle royal that I should have won! Fucking Stevens!” Jace shakes his fist into the air.
“Regardless, Arthur Pleasant is an inch shorter than you and about 30lbs. lighter. He still loves Hardcore styles of matches and seems to focus his attacks on the neck area of his opponents.” Meredith reads from her cellphone.
“Same with JJR it seems. I should have known this wouldn’t be easy.” Jace uses his hand to rub the back of his neck.
“Of course, you know by now he’s formed a bit of an alliance with the current HOTv Champion JJR.” Meredith states the obvious. “If Mr. Starr and yourself can rough JJR up a bit before ICONIC? It would be a great help to Darin and I.”
“Is Zion the only thing you’re going to talk about here?!” Jace asks in annoyance.
“I happen to love Darin and I’m his manager. If it weren’t for you and him acting like children earlier this week, I would be by his side right now and helping him prepare for his match against David Noble.” Meredith replies.
“It’s not my fault that you ended up beside me and that Madison ended up beside him. We each grabbed who we thought who our manager was and went our separate ways. Let it go already.” Jace rolls his eyes as the elevator doors open up to the lobby and the two of them step out of the cramped space.
“I will not let it go! Darin took the loss in the battle royal hard and there is no telling what kind of stuff that Madison is putting in his head right now.”
“Putting in his head? No, at this point she’s probably giving him head or at the very least she’s showing him all the nude selfies she has of herself on her phone.” Jace smirks.
Meredith’s eyes widen at this news, and she takes off for the front door screaming at top of her lungs. “I’m coming Darinnnn!”
With everyone in the lobby now looking at him oddly, Jace just shrugs. “Hey, what can I say? I might not be Darin, but she WILL be screaming that later.”
Jace winks at the lady behind the reception desk and follows behind Meredith as the scene fades.
Later that night the door swings open on the less than luxury hotel room that Jace had booked for himself and Madison. Meredith enters the room looking completely exhausted and done with all the shenanigans of the past few days. Jace enters the room and closes the door behind him as Meredith walks over to the edge of the bed and collapses down upon it.
“Oh, Darin, why haven’t you called?” Meredith asks as she falls back onto the bed and stares up at her cellphone in her hand.
“We’re overseas Meredith, do you really expect the cell reception to be that great?” Jace asks as he goes over to the mini bar to make himself a drink.
“I miss his face; I miss his voice.” Meredith sighs longingly.
“Yup, definitely too sober for all of this.” Jace says as continues to add mini bottles to his drink.
Meredith curls up into the fetal position on the bed as tears start to stream down her face. Once satisfied with the amount of liquor in his glass Jace takes a drink and walks over towards the bed where Meredith is curled up.
“Look, before you go crying yourself to sleep over Zion of all people, why don’t you do something productive?” Jace barks as Meredith wipes her eyes.
“For the last time we are not having–” Jace interrupts Meredith.
“I’m talking about making yourself useful.” Jace corrected her.
“What could you possibly want now?” Meredith asks with frustration emanating from her voice.
“Madison usually helps me record my promos but since she’s with your lover boy, I’m nominating you for the job.” Jace says as Meredith gets up off of the bed.
“Fine, let’s just get this over with.” Meredith says in a huff.
Jace gestures out with his arm for her to lead the way as Meredith grabs a hold of her cellphone. Jace takes another drink from his glass and takes a seat in one of the plush chairs in the hotel room. Meredith raises her cellphone into the air and points it towards Jace as she starts recording.
“This week here in Liverpool I have the honor of teaming with my close friend and HOW Hall of Famer Jatt Starr to take on the team of the returning Arthur Pleasant and the current HOTv Champion the undefeated Jeffrey James Roberts. A daunting task indeed and one that we as a team may not be able to overcome but that’s perfectly fine because you two are just a mere speed bump on the road to ICONIC.”
Jace swirls the liquor in his glass a bit before taking another drink.
“I know that might be hard to hear for two men that see themselves as rabid killers but are nothing more than mere pups in the grand scheme of things. You see Jatt already laid out the challenge to Scottywood for a fight at ICONIC. Now if Sir. Bitterwood has any balls left, we’ll see those two do battle at ICONIC live in London. Of course, it is already well established that Conor Fuse and I will be stealing the show at ICONIC in a match where the winner gets the chance to main event a PPV in 2022. So where does that leave Mr. Pleasant and our so-called dominant HOTv Champion for the biggest PPV of the year?”
Jace lets the question linger in the air a bit as Meredith steadies the camera.
“Hell, even Bobbinette Carey has a match booked for ICONIC and she’s barely wrestled a match since coming back out of retirement. That doesn’t say much for the two of you, what is the plan of attack here? Are you going to come to the ring and put on such a performance of savagery against Jatt and myself that the powers that be, had no choice but to take notice of the two of you the week before ICONIC? Are you going to brutalize us with weapons? Are you going to literally bite a chunk out of our bodies and keep them as souvenirs? Or are you going to go all out and murder the two of us? Since you two try hards like to hammer home the point that you’re spooky like an episode of Dexter.”
Jace chuckles a bit before regaining his composure.
“Let’s focus on you for a bit Arthur and I have to admit for someone whose whole HOW career amounts to a pile of dog shit so far, you sure like to run your mouth. I don’t know if it’s the fact that you like the sound of your own voice or the fact that you’re trying to convince people that you’re just as ‘lethal’ as JJR. Either way it’s pretty fucking annoying but I want to take about your take on Jatt Starr and how I supposedly deserve better? Let me tell you something, kid. Jatt Starr is a HOW Hall of Famer and much more of a competitor than you and JJR combined. He’s done things in HOW that you only accomplish on the HOW video game when you play as yourself. A former HOW World Champion, HOW LSD Champion, Tag Team Champion, the list just goes on and on and what HOW belt have you won again?”
Jace cocks his eyebrow and looks around the hotel room for an answer.
“That’s right, you’ve done absolutely dick as far as Championships go here. I mean all it takes is one elimination in a War Games match to make you take your ball and go home. But now you want people to believe your little ragequit was all a part of your ‘plans for war’? Do you even listen to the bullshit that flows from your mouth like a broken faucet? You think you have Jatt all figured out and that he’s the weak link of our team but newsflash, dummy. That’s the whole point of Jatt’s schtick. He lulls you into a false sense of confidence. Just ask John Sektor how hard it was to retain the HOW LSD Championship belt in that 97-minute ironman match. Jatt is a hell of a partner and even more of an opponent. Now as far as I go you think fucked up because I stomped your skull into the canvas during the battle royal then dumped you over the top rope. Please, I’ll stomp your head again and I’m almost positive it’ll have the same effect it did last week. And what makes you think that’s the only trick up my sleeve?”
Jace shrugs his shoulders and takes a drink from his glass.
“Then there is our almighty HOTv Champion. The man that represents the very network that our shows are broadcasted on. The undefeated superstar known as Jeffrey James Roberts. I’m sure by now you feel like you’ve eclipsed my reign as HOTv Champion but that couldn’t be further from the truth. I lifted the Championship up the ranks and made it a belt that everyone on the roster wanted. I had challengers beating down my door left and right whereas your reign has amounted to nothing more than a wet fart. The only person that even wants to fight you for the HOW HOTv Championship belt is the lowly Darin Zion.”
“Hey!” Meredith shouts from behind the cellphone as Jace raises his index finger up to his lips to silence her.
“I’m sure you’d love people to believe that the rest of the HOW roster is scared to face you but that simply isn’t the case. For someone that has been put away for killing people you’ve surely only killed the excitement over the HOTv Championship belt thus far. People are more interested in what body part you’re going to bite off post-match than they are your ability inside of the ring. However, what can you expect from a man whose highest point of his reign was being booped by that human waste of heat known as Elizabeth Dresden? The fact that no one drew your name in the lethal lottery last week is yet another disappointment on your part since no one seems pissed off at all that they didn’t get to wrestle for that title. Then again, this week the belt that’s supposed to be defended every single week isn’t being defended. Why is that?”
Jace downs half of the liquor left in the glass.
“Is it because the title has so much heat on it that it needs another week to cool off? Or is it because the so-called undefeated monster needs a lackey like Arthur Pleasant to do his dirty work for him? Tell me, what does a man that hasn’t been pinned yet need with someone who is probably going to quit the next time he under achieves inside of the ring? Was Elizabeth Dresden that much competition for you that you needed Pleasant in your corner in case something went wrong? Doesn’t matter because this week Jeffrey you’re up against a Hall of Famer and the King of Everything and maybe…maybe if you walk out with your hand raised in victory people will see you as something more than #2 to me as a HOTv Champion and in the rankings. Maybe someone other than fucking Zion–”
Meredith goes to speak up, but Jace stops her.
Jace demands as Meredith begrudgingly keeps her mouth shut.
“–will want to challenge you for the title at ICONIC. But, by all means, if I’m touching a nerve here Jeffrey feel free to kill me out in the ring this week. I’m not scared, neither Jatt or I are the women you like to prey on and frankly we are more than willing to fight back. We’ll see you boys out in the ring this week and then when it’s all said and done. You can sit in your hotel rooms in London and watch Jatt and I do what we do best at ICONIC.”
Jace raises his glass into the air before finishing the contents as Meredith stops filming.
“I think I’m ready for bed.” Meredith says in a weary voice.
Meredith puts her cell phone away and makes her way back over towards the bed in the hotel room. Jace gets up from his seat and follows behind her. Meredith leans over and begins to pull back the covers on the bed as Jace comes up from behind her and smacks her on the ass.
“Now you’re speaking my language.” Jace says with a smile.
Meredith straightens up like a bolt of lightning went straight through her body. Jace grins ear to ear but Meredith balls up her fist and punches him in the chest as hard as she can but barely does any damage to Jace. Instead, it’s Meredith that ends up hurting her own hand.
“I think I need a shower first.” Meredith says as she nurses her injured hand with the other.
“Shower sounds good, count me in!” Jace begins to pull off his shirt, but Meredith stops him.
“Alone!” Meredith informs Jace as she takes off the jacket of her business suit and heads into the bathroom.
“Yeah, that’s good you go and shave your panty hamster and I’ll be right behind you!” Jace waits a moment then goes to head into the bathroom anyway, but Meredith slams the door closed behind her. Jace reaches for the doorknob to open it but notices that Meredith has locked it.
“Well goddamn, how does she expect me to watch her strip down and get wet in the shower if she locks the door?! Some people, geez.” Jace says in a defeated tone as he goes to make another drink.
Twenty minutes later the bathroom door opens and out steps Meredith wearing a lush white robe and her hair tied up in a towel. She looks refreshed from all that she’s had to go through these past few days until she looks over towards the bed to see a half-naked Jace laying under the sheets.
“Now that you’re all clean, let’s get a little dirty.” Jace says as he holds the sheets open.
The camera switches to the outside of the hotel room where the sound of Meredith screaming at the top of lungs can be heard from the inside. The sound of arguing along with something crashing and shattering can be heard from inside the room. The hotel room door opens quickly and Jace races out of the room with his clothes in hand and slams the door shut behind him.
“Okay then, guess I’m staying up all night drinking.” Jace sighs.
Jace thinks for a moment then reopens the hotel room door only to hear another scream and something being thrown towards his head before shutting it closed and heading for the elevator.
