End of the Road

Kostoff: I have not been here for a little bit, I tried to come here often but as time has gone on I have pulled away from it. I need to do this…

(He slows down and and down shifts. Turning onto a small gravel road, he coasts the road. Headstones are seen in the shadow of the rain. He comes to a stop and sits for a moment. Taking a deep breath he exits his car and makes his way to the plot. Standing in the rain he looks down.)

Kostoff: There are no words I can say that describes the fact I have been brought to my knees. I can’t. The loss has been crippling.

(Tears fill his eyes as he falls to his knees. Heavy sobs escape the large man’s throat as he grabs the headstone with his massive hand.)

Kostoff: You left me before I could finish this, you are not with me anymore. It has been 3 years now and the pain feels like it was yesterday. I dread each day I wake up, it should have been me. I should have lost the fight.

(His hand grips the headstone tighter. His voice catches in his throat.)

Kostoff: I was not perfect, i know my drive got anger and revenge took its toll on you. So much so I put you in the hospital and now….

(A unearthly wail escapes his throat as he slams his first into the stone. The vein in his neck pulsates as he tried to gain his composure.)

Kostoff: Into the ground. The kids blame me. They will not talk to me. I did set them up for life, if i die they will never have to worry about anything again.

Kostoff: I let you down. I failed you, I let you die because of my bloodlust for revenge. It was me. I can never tell you how much I am sorry, you took your life and now here I am….

(He looks up into the storm as the rain pours down. He lets out a sigh.)

Kostoff: The God’s will watch over me. But for them now, watch over you. I hope and pray you are at peace now. Soon I will gain my revenge, I will fucking kill him.

(A squawk is heard, he turns his head to see two black crows sitting on the ground not far from him. His tears stop as he sniffles.)

Kostoff: All Father watches….may the God’s keep a eye on you while I am still here.

(He leans toward the headstone and kisses the cool stone. Tears well up and roll down his face. He stands up and slowly makes his way away from it.)

Kostoff: You did this Lee, I fucking hold you responsible. I will end this….

(The camera focuses in on the headstone as his footsteps trial off. The headstone shows the name of the only person he loved. His wife, Barbi Kostoff. The crowd caw as lightning flashes….darkness)
